Ingredients

  • 1kg (2.2 lbs) boneless chicken breast

  • 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce

  • 2 tablespoons honey

  • 1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder

  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce

  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon red food colouring (optional)

  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar

Directions

  • 1. Marinate the Chicken
In a large bowl, whisk together hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, Chinese five-spice, oyster sauce, garlic powder, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and red food colouring if using.
Add the chicken breast strips and coat them thoroughly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, but overnight is best for maximum flavour.
  • 2. Preheat the Air Fryer
Set your air fryer to 200°C (400°F) and preheat for 3-5 minutes.
  • 3. Air Fry the Chicken
Arrange the marinated chicken in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway, until the edges are caramelized and the internal temperature reaches 75°C (165°F).
Pro Tip: Brush any remaining marinade on the chicken halfway through for an extra glossy finish.
  • 4. Rest and Slice
Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before slicing. This helps retain the juices and makes it easier to cut.
